Big Blue Nation Orientation will start in mid-June and run through mid-July for incoming freshmen and transfers. To learn what your Wildcat should be doing in preparation and what parents and families should know in advance, visit https://orientation.uky.edu/checklist. A few highlights can be found below...
Encourage your new student to check their UK email regularly so they don't miss out on important information. Students will need to complete Canvas modules prior to orientation and will receive information about that via email 3-4 weeks prior to their orientation date.
If you would like to stay on campus while attending a Big Blue Nation Orientation, click here to learn more about overnight accommodations in Jewell Hall on North Campus (please note reservations need to be made at least three days prior to your stay).
Each orientation day begins with check-in from 7:30-8:15 a.m. Eastern time. Most students will be finished by 4:30 p.m. A full schedule for the day will be available in the UK Guides mobile app (download from your app store).
Students are encouraged to bring a personal laptop or tablet with them to orientation and wear comfortable clothing. Some meeting locations will require participants to walk moderate distances outside. Families and guests are also encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Some indoor sessions may be chilly due to air conditioning, and outdoor walks are likely to be hot. Check the weather in advance of your orientation date and prepare accordingly.
If students or their guests need interpretation services or accommodations, please reach out to orientation@uky.edu at least a week prior to the orientation date.
Parents and families will note a few sessions just for you, including "Supporting Your Wildcat" and the "What I Wish My Family Knew" student panel featuring our First-Year Experience Ambassadors. Most students bring at least one family member or guest with them to orientation; the guest fee is $30 per guest and paid for at the time of orientation registration. To add an additional guest, email orientation@uky.edu. Guests do not attend course registration, due to FERPA regulations.
We look forward to welcoming you to campus soon! Questions? Comment below or email orientation@uky.edu or parents@uky.edu.
